John Mayfield joined Prairie Capital in 2010. He has responsibility for the firm’s financial operations and for accounting and financial operational support to all of its portfolio companies, in addtion to serving as the firm’s Chief Compliance Officer.

Before joining Prairie Capital, John worked closely with privately-held businesses and family office operations as their CFO, including seventeen years with Illinois Tool Works (NYSE:ITW) in a number of key financial positions.

John has over 30 years of experience in the financing and accounting operations of growing middle-market companies, with global experience in the distribution, service and manufacturing sectors. He has directly led over 20 acquisitions from target identification through post purchase integration. John has in depth experience in the areas of tax, treasury and bank financing, with special technical skills in acquisition integration, strategic planning, IT implementations, and performance management.

John graduated from University of Missouri with a BSBA in Accounting. He received his MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. John is a member of the American Institute of CPA’s and the Illinois Society of CPA’s. He lives with his wife and three sons in Kenilworth, Illinois.

As well as his responsibilities at Prairie Capital, John serves as an adjunct professor to the College of Management and Business of National Louis University, and as a volunteer for Junior Achievement of Chicago. Past associations include the board of the Kenilworth United Fund, President of the Kenilworth Library Board, and University of Missouri School of Accountancy Advisory Board.
